A Lookback at the Celebration of Northeast India

Northeast India Heritage Festival

The Northeast India Heritage Festival created an inclusive and collaborative platform for celebrating the deep cultural heritage of the eight northeastern states of India. Rooted in the values of connection, research, and cultural exchange, the festival brought together communities, artisans and artists from across the region through music, crafts, cuisine, storytelling and immersive experiences.

Eight States, Endless Traditions

Destination NE India

Northeast India, often called India’s unexplored paradise, is home to vibrant cultures, diverse traditions, and a rich history. This monograph by Dr. Palme Borthakur, Dr. Utpola Borah, Mr. Kishore Seram, and Dr. Hans Utter highlights the region’s historical sites and the cultural journeys that have shaped its identity over the years.

About Us

Himalayan Folkways is a cultural organization rooted in research, education, and community collaboration. We preserve and promote living traditions by working directly with the people who carry them forward. Led by ethnomusicologists and grounded in long-term community partnerships, our work spans global diaspora communities, particularly in the United States. We focus on cultural continuity, not cultural display.
